The Basics of Photography

People are the number one subject for photographs. From festive photos to comparing photos of monuments, children’s pictures, and travel photos of relatives, millions of people are photographed in all countries in all season celebrations and every day. Portrait photography is different from general people’s photography. The purpose of photography is to represent and capture something of someone’s “personality”; to express something about lifestyle or personality character.

Camera Settings

This imitates the effect of looking at a person’s face from a short distance and also creates “pop up” (this is the language of photographers to “attract attention”). The best way to get a portrait photograph without distractions is to use a wide aperture, often as wide as possible (f/2.8 and f/4 are popular choices). The current and most important setting is ISO. There are portrait photography and only one branch of portrait photography where the settings are different, and that is environmental portrait photography. Portrait photography represents a person’s “natural habitat,” and this is where they work.

Lighting

The lighting in portrait photography can be as complicated as you want. You probably don’t have your photo studio, so let’s talk about a simple lighting strategy that you can install on your property if you are reading this. Set up your version. The window light will turn on. Put some reflected light on the window on the side of your face. Something white or reflective may be effective, a sheet of paper, or a piece of cardboard. You have a plane of light, the source on a single page of this template, and ‘fill’ the light.

Subject

Portrait photography says something about the connection between the photographer and the subject. Portrait photography is about light or camera settings, but you need to make sure that the model is relaxed and comfortable enough to get good results. A model who feels uncomfortable or not confident will not yield to a good photograph. The ideal way to keep them busy is to have a conversation with them because this can keep their thoughts busy. Make them feel comfortable with the process.
